On Thursday 17th of September our Year 7 students attended an Indigenous Australian Cultural Awareness experience at Dreamworld. This was to consolidate our understanding of Aboriginal perspectives that were foregrounded in our novel study of Two Hands Together, by Diana Kidd.
Students were enthralled by our Indigenous Australian guide, who was a Scenic Rim local and had much to tell us about the practices and beliefs of Aboriginal groups on and around the Mountain.
We specifically learnt about tribes, elders, respect, sorry business, significance of nature and cultural signs. Students enjoyed exploring the interactive ‘humpy’ and then finished off the day with some adrenaline-inducing rides.
