Jodie from the Scenic Rim Council joined us in Year 2 as she is an expert on recycling and natural resources (our science unit). Her visit generated not only excitement, but deeper discussions surrounding our recycling and our Earth’s natural resources. We engaged in hands on experiences as we shared our knowledge to create new understandings. We collaboratively discussed the importance recycling and identified recyclable and non-recyclable items, addressing why they were or were not recyclable. We then moved outside, gathering in one of our many open, natural spaces at TMC. We used four of our five senses as we engaged in ‘deep listening.’ Everyone found their own space, sat or laid down as we used our senses to observe our natural surroundings. We then shared our observations, thoughts and feelings.
