On Friday the 18th of March our Year 10 students were honoured to hear a first-hand account of the atrocities suffered by Australian POWs in World War II. Our speaker Lt. Leslie Glover was one of the remaining Sandakan-Ranau Camp survivors. The Sandakan-Ranau POW Camps and death marches were one of the darkest moments in Australia’s military history, those imprisoned suffered a 99.9% death rate. Lt. Glover’s experience not only taught us about the horrors and hardships of war, but also how camaraderie and resilience can result from such times.
We would like to extend our warmest thanks to Lt. Glover and his family for facilitating such a valuable experience for our students.
