Last week Year 2 became ‘Water Bug Detectives’ as we visited our local Landcare site. We worked alongside Lyn from Jacobs Well Environmental Educational Centre, to develop our scientific knowledge and understanding of freshwater habitats.
We used our inquiry skills to investigate and recognise characteristics of various freshwater creatures. Our students now understand that there are both sensitive and tolerant bugs, dependent on water quality and environmental conditions.
We all had a turn using a net to scoop bugs from the pond. Once we returned to our work stations, we used our bug identification kit to support us in identifying and classifying our discoveries.
We also had the opportunity to closely examine our freshwater creatures using a microscope! A big thank you to Lyn for sharing her knowledge and passion with us. Thank you also to Judy from Tamborine Mountain Landcare for hosting our little scientists from Year 2!
