Good afternoon parents and guardians,

The last two weeks have sped by and the children are currently enjoying their last day of the school year.  It has been an amazing third year of our Primary school and the students, parents and staff of TMC all deserve thanks.

Our students are a wonderful group of children.  They all shine in their own way and we have gotten to know them so well over the year.  As a staff, we are often reminded about how lucky we are to teach such a lovely group of young people.  Like any ‘family’, we sometimes have a few issues, but we quickly refocus on positive outcomes and look to solve problems together.

Our parents continue to support the College in so many ways.  Our communication is key – thank you to every parent who has come to see me, called or emailed this year.  Communication between home and school is the single most important habit we must foster to generate successful outcomes for your children.  Next year, we will host a number of P&F meetings outside of school hours, so if work has been a barrier to your attendance in the past, please come along to show your support on one of these nights.  I would like to thank the P&F members and all of our volunteers for their efforts this year.  Mrs Melbourne and I look forward to seeing this group of parents grow over the coming years.  Finally, a ‘thank you’ to every parent who has:

  • taken time to regularly read with their child this year
  • helped their child complete homework
  • encouraged their child to practice their musical instrument
  • followed up on communication with a teacher
  • met with their child’s teacher with a concern
  • attended open days or meet the teacher nights
  • or driven their child up and down the mountain many times over!

And lastly, a final thanks to my staff.  I was asked at the Year 6 graduation dinner, ‘How do you find such wonderful teachers to teach here?’  I responded that the number one thing I look for is ‘attitude’ – it all stems from there.  I can confidently say that this group of professionals stack up against any other teaching group I have seen.  They all have their individual strengths, but what ties them together is a genuine desire to see your children flourish academically and socially.  They have all earned a well-deserved break and I look forward to the challenges and excitement that we will share in 2018.

Next week, our teachers will start finalising report cards and complete literacy and numeracy professional development.  The College office closes for Christmas on December 8 and reopens on January 8.  Please remember to place your stationery and uniforms orders for 2018 on The School Locker website or visit their shop in Loganholme during the break.

I wish you all a safe and happy holiday period.  Spend as much time as you can together during the break, and savour the ‘little moments’ with your family that can often be overlooked in our busy lives.

Kind regards,

Mark Stevens

An amazing Year 6 class deserved a magical send-off to Primary school!  Wednesday night saw the Year 6 class officially graduate and every student dressed up for the occasion.  Congratulations to the Class of 2017!

Digital Library UPGRADE!!

Tamborine Mountain College is excited to announce that we have extended our collection of digital library books to include audio versions of many titles. Audiobooks are a wonderful way for students to engage with stories. They can be listened to in the car, at home or even on holiday.  The upgrade also includes many more popular new releases!

Students can access the library collection at any time, day or night, from a computer, smartphone or tablet. Students need the web address or the free ePlatform App, and their College email address and login.  Please contact your teacher if you are unsure of these details.

Students can borrow books over the holidays and read or listen to many wonderful titles. Not sure what to read? The Children’s Book Council of Australia has a wonderful book review site called Reading Time which can point students towards particular styles of books.

From all of us at TMC, we wish you happy holiday reading!

New Teacher for 5 Val
Mr Hyde, our Year 5 Val teacher, is staying at the College next year but he is moving into our digital and design technologies teaching position.  Mr Hyde is looking forward to further developing our technology program at TMC to create a seamless transition from Prep through to Year 12.
I can announce that in 2018, Year 5 Val will be taught by Mr Whitby who has accepted the position after a successful round of interviews.  Mr Whitby will be here next Thursday during the teachers’ week to be involved in our professional development workshops and to meet with Mrs Lesslie and I to discuss planning for Year 5.  Mrs Noel and Miss Hattenfels will also complete a class handover for their Year 4 students who will be in Mr Whitby’s class.
First Day of Class, 2018
The students’ first day back next year is Monday, January 22.  The parents of our wonderful P&F are planning a ‘Tea and Tissues’ event for that morning.  All parents, returning and new, are welcome to enjoy a light morning tea on deck next to the playground.  It will be a great chance to meet some new parents and catch up with old friends.
