Good afternoon parents and guardians,
It is with a mixture of sadness and excitement that we say ‘all the best’ to Mrs Fern as she leaves today to start her maternity leave. Mrs Fern has had a big impact on the lives of our young students in the Primary over the last two and a half years. On behalf of the College community, I would like to wish her well over the coming weeks and months.
Miss Kathy Hiron is taking over the Year 1 class from next Thursday. Miss Hiron has taught the students a number of times in the role as a relief teacher, as well as helping out for many days this term as a volunteer. She is very professional and approachable, and the students in Year 1 will have a smooth transition to their new teacher due to the efforts she has already made within the class.
The College will be closed for two public holidays next Monday and Wednesday, as well as a student free day on Tuesday. As mentioned in previous correspondence, this is the last year that TMC will close on these particular days. From next year, we will only acknowledge the Monday, Scenic Rim Show Holiday. Please take this into consideration when you are planning family holidays for 2018.
I hope you all enjoy a fantastic long weekend with your families.

Early Arrivals/Late Departures Policy – Update
If your child is taken to school before 8:15 am they must be booked in with Camp Australia. If a Primary student is found on campus before this time, the teacher will sit the student outside their classroom and initiate contact with their parents to remind them of 8:15 am drop off time.
If a child is left at the College after 3:15 pm they will be taken either to the main office or to Mr Stevens’ office where they will wait until their parent collects them.
This policy is in place so your children are adequately supervised at all times. Please make sure that if there is a change to your child’s routine in the afternoon (i.e. not catching the bus when they normally would), you notify their teacher well-ahead of time so they may help to remind them.
Moonhack – Computer Coding Day
TMC Primary parent, Sharon Green, shared this exciting event with me today. Moonhack is aimed at any students aged 8-18 who love coding (i.e. Scratch programming etc). The idea is to have a global day of coding and they hope to break the world record of the number of children doing it at the same time. Last year they started the event in Australia and set the record at 10,207 children coding simultaneously. This year the event is going global and they want to smash last year’s record.
Follow the link below if this sounds like something your child/ren would be into. The event is next Tuesday, so it would be a perfect activity for their student free day. Let your child’s teacher know if your they were involved – maybe they could share their Moonhack coding with the class next Thursday!
A very excited Primary Choir gave its first performance for 2017 in assembly last week. The choir performed ‘Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head’ followed by ‘Never Smile at a Crocodile’ with Year 1 and Year 2. Lastly, Prep joined in to sing the pirate song ‘When I was One’. All our musicians did a great job singing and performing actions and it was a real highlight of assembly last week!
I would like to invite students from Years 1 – 6 to join the choir for its next performance at the Primary Music Concert on the 3rd of November. Rehearsals take place every Tuesday at second break in the Stage Area. It is important that interested students make a commitment to regularly attend rehearsals each week so that we can prepare for our best possible performance at the November concert.
Being part of the Choir is a great opportunity for students to enjoy music making with their peers, develop their musical and performance talents, build confidence, and complement their classroom and instrumental music programs at the College. I look forward to seeing more students join us next week!

Illnesses in the Primary
Sharing is fun! But not when it comes to germs… The Primary teachers regularly remind students about personal hygiene, especially at this time of year. Parents can help by reinforcing these practices at home as well. We have had many children off school sick recently as it has been a terrible season for illnesses. Please remember to email [email protected] if your child is too unwell for school.
Prep – Year 2 Moana Dance Performance – Monday, August 7
It was an amazing turnout by family and friends to see the Prep – Year 2 dance performance of Moana. Mr Fern will edit together video footage from the show and we will share it with the College community when it is ready. Congratulations to the performers and teachers for a wonderful show!
Year 4 and 5 Camp – Monday, 7 August – Wednesday, 9 August
The annual Primary camp was a big success this year. The students and teachers enjoyed their three days of fun and adventure at camp. The weather was perfect and by all accounts the food was amazing! The teachers took plenty of photographs during the camp, so please see your child’s teacher for a copy which they can put onto USB.
Value for Next Week – Trustworthiness
The value is discussed on assembly each Monday morning and students participate in a values lesson the following Friday. Our values class begins at 8:30 am each Friday for a lesson based around the value of the week. Please ensure that you note this in your diaries so you child is dropped off at school BEFORE 8:30 am on Friday.
