Good afternoon parents and guardians,

Year 6 students returned last Friday from their week away in Sydney and Canberra.  Mr Noel, Miss Eagleton and Mrs Hanson reported that the students all represented TMC with distinction and they all had an amazing time away.  I would like to thank the students for their behaviour and involvement, and also the three staff members who gave up their own time to organise and supervise our annual trip.  Please follow this link for photos and a report about the trip by Mr Noel.

Mrs Melbourne, Mrs Stevens and I had an opportunity to tour our new administration building yesterday.  We were all impressed by what our builders have currently achieved and it was a great chance for us to get a sense of the space we will have within the new building.  Having a purpose-built environment for our administration team to work in will enable us to streamline many of our procedures, creating a better experience for staff, students and families.  The building will be officially opened later this year and be tied with a College fair.  The dates of the opening and fair will be announced later this term.

The foyer will have high ceilings, giving a sense of space

The rear of the building has a staff room and a classroom

The architects from Fulton Trotter were on-hand to answer design questions

Mrs Melbourne with the foreman from our builders, Midson Construction

Kind regards,

Mark Stevens

Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER)

Students from Year 6 have recently undertaken an educational tour of the national capital.  Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education.  To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion, the Australian Government is contributing the funding of $60 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs.  The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion and the accounts of Year 6 parents will be credited.

Expressions of Interest – Pre-Prep Program at TMC

We are currently investigating the feasibility of developing a Prep-Prep program at TMC.  If you have a younger child who may be eligible for a program such as this, we are now accepting Expressions of Interest from the community.  Please email Vanessa Simpson at [email protected] if you would like your child added to the list.  Include your child’s name and date of birth, with a subject heading – Expressions of Interest for Pre-Prep.  More information regarding the possibility of a Pre-Prep at TMC will be given in due course.

Primary Debating Competition – Round 2

Our two Primary debating teams had another successful evening of competition during the week.  Out of the six debates, we had four wins, one draw and one loss.  Currently, both of our teams are ranked in the top five for their divisions – an incredible effort for our first attempt at debating!  Thank you to the parents who were able to attend, and to our wonderful Primary teachers who are helping out at debating club and adjudicating at the competitions.  There are two more rounds to look forward to later this term.
