Car Park and Road Safety - A note for parents
I want to take a moment to highlight the importance of safety during our school drop-off and pick-up times, particularly in relation to Beacon Road and the TMC entrance/exit. It is essential for everyone to take care, give way, and be attentive when pulling out of the driveway.
A few small actions—like taking extra care when pulling out, waiting for those who have the right of way, and keeping to speed limits—help make our school a safer place for all.
Here's a reminder on some key points to keep our school car park a safe zone for everyone:
- Respect All Crossing Staff Directions: Remember, crossing staff are there for our children's safety. Following their directions, even if it seems inconvenient, ensures the safety of all children. A short delay is far better than a potential accident.
- Slow Down: Remember, the speed limit in the car park is there for a reason. Slow down to prioritise the safety of students, staff, and other parents.
- Eyes on the Road: Please pay attention to staff instructions and avoid distractions while driving in the car park. There is NO excuse to be on a handheld mobile phone whilst driving.
- Zebra Crossing Champs: Encourage your child to only cross the road at designated pedestrian zebra crossings. This helps them develop safe crossing habits from a young age.
- 2-Minute Zone Efficiency: The designated pick-up/drop-off zone is for a quick exchange only. Please ONLY enter these spaces if your child/ren are waiting in this area before entering the zone to avoid unnecessary congestion.
- Extra Awareness for Large Vehicles: For those driving large vehicles like SUVs or vans, be extra cautious when reversing or manoeuvring. Blind spots can be significant, so take your time and double-check for children, staff and pedestrians before proceeding.
Our Car Park Safety Infographic highlights that safety is everyone’s responsibility. Simple acts—like ensuring children exit cars from the left side and avoiding parking or waiting in the drop-off zone—go a long way in making our school environment safer for all.
Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful school community.
