Has your TMC child been negatively impacted by the extreme weather event? TMC is able to apply for a Student Assistance Grant to provide financial relief to families in regards to school fees. Independent Schools Queensland (ISQ) has opened grant applications for schools to provide fee relief or bursaries to students affected by the extreme weather between December 2023 and February 2024.

Information required for the grant application includes: 

a) A statement describing your eligibility for this funding, including details of the specific drought-declared areas, or the circumstances of the natural disaster or extreme weather. 

b) A statement describing the impact of drought, natural disaster or extreme weather on the impacted students. 

ISQ may request additional information where this is required to assist in assessing whether the application is eligible. Where eligible applications exceed the total funding available, ISQ may scale down applications on a pro-rata basis, and may prioritise some applications over others. 

This program is funded by the Australian Government through the Choice and Affordability Fund. 

If you would like the College to apply to ISQ for the Student Assistance Grant on your behalf, please email the information listed above to Principal Fiona Stevens at principal@tmc.qld.edu.au by March 18th, 2024.

After 14 amazing years, I will bid farewell to Tamborine Mountain College at the end of Term 1. It is with both excitement and trepidation that I leave the school that has supported me since I was a first-year teacher, fresh out of university.

I am happy to announce that I am embarking on a new adventure and embracing a career opportunity as the Head of Teaching, Training and Learning at BUSY Schools, across their eight Queensland Campuses.

Being a teacher and leader at TMC has been an incredibly rewarding journey, filled with growth and unforgettable moments. I've had the pleasure and privilege of guiding many young minds and supporting our teachers as they face the rewarding and challenging elements of education.   

As I reflect on my time here, I am filled with gratitude for my colleagues, the dedication of our students, and the commitment of the school community. Though I may be leaving these familiar grounds behind, the memories and relationships forged here will always hold a special place in my heart.

Our single serve garlic breads are one of the most popular items on the menu. Great as a snack or make it a meal by pairing it with one of our pizzas, pasta bolognese or beef lasagne.

The garlic bread is vegetarian and vegan friendly as the bread and garlic spread is made with vegetable oil.

The bread comes wrapped in aluminum foil and can double as a hand warmer on those cold mountain days. Bonus!!

The Snack Shop Team

Our 2023 P&F Lego Spike fundraiser was a huge success. We raised around $15 000 and now have these fantastic STEM resources in our classrooms. Unfortunately the planned Colour Run part of the event was a wash out with too much rain making the course unsafe. We hope to hold the event this term. Our plan is to check the weather forecast each Monday, and if the week ahead looks clear, hold the event that week. 

This does mean some forward preparation is required from our families. Specifically, if your child is participating in the Colour Run, please have a white (or light coloured) t-shirt, as well as shorts, socks, and closed toed shoes of any colour ready to go. 

Details for the event are:

Date - To be confirmed the Monday prior by an email to all families. On the day, the event begins at 1:00pm

Attire - All students must wear a white (or light coloured) t-shirt, as well as shorts, socks, and closed toed shoes of any colour.
Students MUST bring their Tamborine Mountain College sports uniform to change into at the end of the day before boarding the buses or getting into cars, as well as a towel and plastic bag to store your coloured clothes after the event. Students without a change of clothes will not be permitted to board buses in their colour run clothes.

Didn't do online fundraising?  No problem.  If your student/family did not fundraise online prior to this event, please bring in $5 to their classroom teacher to participate. This can be brought in anytime before the run happens. 

Can parents come along? Yes! Parents can come along to watch the colourful craziness. Please use the timetable below as a guide and note that we may be a lot earlier or later than the times listed.

We are thrilled to share the incredible success of our 2023 Colour Run fundraising event! Thanks to the unwavering support and enthusiasm from our community, we not only reached but surpassed our fundraising goal. What initially aimed for 8 robots turned into a remarkable achievement as we had enough funds to purchase a total of 15 cutting-edge robots for our programs.

The vibrant spirit of the Colour Run brought together individuals of all ages, united by the common goal of supporting our Jr STEM Club and advancing technology education in our senior school programs. The joyful splashes of color mirrored the diversity of talents, ideas, and dreams within our community.

However, as unpredictable as the weather can be, our event was challenged by rain on the scheduled day. Despite the setback, the resiliency and determination of our community shone through. Rather than being discouraged, we are eagerly awaiting a string of good weather to give the actual Colour Run another shot. The enthusiasm to celebrate, run, and revel in the colors of unity and creativity remains undiminished.

The funds raised have already begun making a significant impact. Our Jr STEM Club has enthusiastically embraced the new additions to their learning arsenal. The 15 robots have opened up a world of possibilities for our young minds, allowing them to explore, experiment, and cultivate their passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

As we continue to integrate these robots into our Jr STEM Club activities, we are gearing up for an exciting transition into our senior school tech and STEM programs. The expanded use of these robots will empower our students to engage in hands-on learning experiences, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills that are crucial for their future success.

The success of the Colour Run is a testament to the strength and unity of our community. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated, donated, volunteered, and supported this event in various ways. Your commitment to education and innovation has set the stage for a brighter and more technologically advanced future for our students.

Looking ahead, we are excited about the continued growth and impact that these robots will bring to our STEM programs. With your ongoing support, we are confident that our students will not only thrive in the digital age but also become the innovators and leaders of tomorrow.

Thank you once again for making the 2023 Colour Run a resounding success. Together, we are shaping a future filled with endless possibilities and boundless achievements.

As the Primary cross country will be held on campus this year, the  Snack Shop will be open for orders. 

All morning teas will be delivered to the classrooms as normal as the race finishes approximately 10:45. 

Please note, if you are taking your student home early and need to collect their pre-ordered lunch, please DO NOT present at the Snack shop. You will need  to attend the front office and speak with Mrs Vella, who will organise for your child/ren's lunch to be brought down to you. 

Parents are NOT permitted to walk around the school or enter the secondary campus.  Mr Bourke has sent out an email with designated parent seating/viewing area and toilet locations.

On Wednesday, 21st February we had fifteen brilliant minds representing our college at an interschool chess tournament hosted at Saint Stephen's College. The day was filled with intense battles and remarkable achievements.

There were 280 competitors, where we had 4 teams across division B, C and D. Special mentions go to Aleksi S who secured first place in Division D, while Ewen T, Maison C, and Elijah J earned merit awards for their outstanding performances.

Congratulations to all our talented TMC Chess competitors for their outstanding achievements and representing the college through all our values. Their success underscores the dedication and skill of our growing chess community.

So far this term, Year 7 students have been immersed in a language and literacy unit - here they are literally surrounded by punctuation. I hope they enjoyed this punctuation dominoes activity. We are now moving on to our visual literacy topic which should hopefully offer even more fun hands-on learning experiences, as students engage with a variety of visual texts -before creating their own. It’s shaping up to be an amazing 2024 in our English classes.

This week saw our amazing Year 12 students spend time voluntarily with Year 1 to help with reading and comprehension. The Year 12s journeyed down to the Primary campus to work with the young minds of Mrs Thompson's class. Experiences like these are indispensable for both year groups, as they provide the youngsters with new role models who encourage the value of reading and the joy of books and at the same time provide the seniors with the chance to consider their own experience of learning to read and how far they have come.

Our Prep parents were excellent students at this week’s Prep Parent Literacy Session. Our superstar Prep teachers, Ms Anna Ryall and Ms Kathy Hiron, took parents and guardians through a lesson on learning to read. 

But reading is just saying the words on a page, right? 

Actually, no. There are many processes that need to happen for a child to be able to read. For example:

• Letter sounds knowledge (phonological pathways)
• Repeated decoding and automatic word recognition (lexical pathways)
• Vocabulary and language comprehension

While it may look like our Preppies are just having fun all day long in class (and, they are) they are engaging in specially designed activities to start building the foundations to be life-long readers.

Year Five students have delved into 3D design with Splat3D tools, fostering spatial thinking. Their task? Designing a planet exploration vehicle tailored to their chosen planet's conditions. From soil sampling to temperature readings, creativity knows no bounds. After meticulous design, students will craft their explorers from cardboard, bringing imagination to life. Follow their journey of innovation and discovery!

This week some of the Year 6 students from VIC and VAL got to meet the Prep students for a game of Duck, Duck, Goose!  While half of the Year 6 students were away for the HIA Netball competition, the students that were still at the college were introduced to the Prep cohort of 2024 - and boy did we have fun!  6VIC were then lucky enough to have their visit to Prep VIC this week to meet their new buddies and introduce themselves.  They then created some fun drawings together in the prep yard.

The Year 6 students showed amazing leadership skills and felt such a sense of responsibility.  The 6 VAL students are looking forward to meeting their buddies next week!

On Wednesday, two teams of Year 5 and 6 students headed off to the Jimboomba Netball Association to compete in the Primary HIA Netball Competition. Throughout the day, students competed against Kooralbyn, Hills as well as a one off game against each other. The students displayed a high level of sportsmanship and improved upon their netball skills throughout the games, which saw them come out as equal champions with Hills.

I would like to thank all students for their dedication and commitment to training, Mrs Brown for coaching as well as Annabelle H and Grace L for umpiring.

The amazing Tamborine Mountain Eagles Soccer Club are hoping to form an all girls team in the Under10/Under 12 age group.  If you would like to be part of this come along to the all girls training session with coach Kristy Spindler on Wednesday afternoons at 4.30pm to 5.30pm at Long Road Sports Centre.

There are also openings in the Under 15s girls team.  Any girls 13-14 interested please come along to the training session from 4pm to 5pm on Tuesday and Thursday.
