Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are excited to invite you to the upcoming Tamborine Mountain College Parents and Friends (P&F) Annual General Meeting (AGM). This meeting will be a great opportunity to hear updates from the P&F, learn about the initiatives we have undertaken this year, and discuss plans for the future of our school community.

Details of the AGM:

• Date: Wednesday 20 November 
• Time: 9am - 10am
• Location: Admin Building 

During the AGM, we will also be discussing the open positions of President and Vice-President. If you are interested in applying for one of these roles, or would like more information about the responsibilities involved, please feel free to reach out or express your interest before the meeting.

Additionally, we are welcoming all parents to join the P&F Committee. Being part of the Committee is a wonderful way to actively contribute to the College community, collaborate with other parents, and support initiatives that benefit our children. Committee members are encouraged to attend regular meetings (all meeting dates and activity dates for 2025 will be given at the meeting), and all parents are welcome to participate in the discussions, regardless of whether they hold an official role.

We look forward to seeing you at the AGM and appreciate your ongoing support of our College community.

Dear Parent/s & Guardian/s

We are excited to announce that TMC will implement a new and improved payment platform to pay your child/ren's school fees via direct debit in Parent Lounge.

This new payment system will take effect from 1st January 2025.

It is a paperless, secure payment system within Parent Lounge, which will allow you to set up a payment arrangement that is most convenient for your family.

There are various payment options such as credit/debit cards, bank account or both, as well as more flexibility with the frequency and days the payment will be debited. The system will also include improved communication, advising you of upcoming payment dates and amounts.

We believe this system will provide greater flexibility and convenience for our College families.

An email with further information and instructions on how to set this up will be sent in the coming weeks.

On Wednesday we were very excited to have our Year 10 students participate in Mock Interviews with members of our local business and academic community. As a part of our 10 Careers program, students have been developing their careers' pathway whilst also learning real-world skills to aid their employability. Students had to ensure they were professionally dressed and answered a range of unfamiliar questions. They were then given feedback on their presentation, answering skills and overall manner. For many of our students, this was their first interview and we were so proud of their resilience and grit. It was a roaring success and our volunteer interviewers complimented the cohort on their overall positive attitude, professional presentation and quick-thinking. 

We are incredibly grateful to our community volunteers and staff for generously taking the time to interview our students and provide them with ample and genuine feedback. These opportunities help to empower every student with the life skills they need to succeed.

Last Friday, I had the pleasure of taking our Year 9 to 11 students to the Level Up exhibit, part of the ever-popular Supanova convention, hosted at the Brisbane Entertainment and Convention Centre. For anyone unfamiliar, Supanova is a celebration of all things pop culture—think comic books, gaming, anime, and sci-fi heaven. The Level Up exhibit lived up to its name, offering an immersive experience into the world of gaming, innovation, and technology.

From the moment we entered, it was clear that this was no ordinary excursion.  The exhibit was a sensory overload of flashing lights, vibrant cosplays, and the hum of excited chatter.  Booths lined every corner, showcasing everything from retro gaming consoles to cutting-edge gaming tech.

Taking students out of their usual environment and immersing them in a world driven by creativity and technology offered a refreshing perspective. The experience wasn’t just about games and pop culture; it was about stepping into a space where imagination knows no bounds.

Our Year 3 students had a lovely time visiting the Little Book Room on Friday.

Cat Kid, Dog Man and Billie B Brown were some of their favourites. It was so hard to choose between all of the amazing books!

At our school, the bond between different year levels is always a source of pride, and we are excited to highlight a heartwarming initiative that has been flourishing at lunchtimes. Our Year 4VAL students have been spending their free time reading to our younger Prep students, and it’s quickly become a beloved tradition that supports learning, communication, and relationship-building for both groups.

For the Year 4VAL students, this experience not only reinforces their own literacy skills but also allows them to practice communication in a nurturing environment. By reading aloud to the Preps, they learn to adapt their tone, pace, and expression to engage their younger audience, enhancing their ability to convey information clearly and effectively. This opportunity also helps them develop leadership skills as they take on the role of mentors and role models.

For the Prep students, the benefit is just as impactful. Listening to the older students read provides them with a rich exposure to language, vocabulary, and story structure, supporting their own literacy development in an enjoyable, interactive way. The Preps are also able to build confidence in their communication skills as they ask questions, discuss the stories, and share their own thoughts with the Year 4's.

The Year 1 transformed into little chefs for a special fairy bread making session! The students teamed up with their friends, with one person reading their recipe aloud while the other followed the instructions to create their colourful treat. It was fantastic to see them listening carefully and working together so well. The room was filled with excitement and laughter as the chefs proudly showed off their creations. Well done, Year 1 chefs! You did an amazing job!

Last Friday students from Prep-6 attended their respective Swimming Carnivals at our local Tamborine Mountain Pool.  Our Prep-2 Carnival consisted of students competing in either a 25m Kickboard or 25m Freestyle event, with a large number of students stepping outside of their comfort zone and undertaking challenging events. Our students were supported in the water by our Secondary students and we thank them for their help.

Our 3-6 Carnival took place in the afternoon with students competing in 25m and 50m events across the strokes of Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly. Participation and encouragement were high and we thank all students for getting involved. Below are our Age Champion results:

Our overall winning House was a very close affair with all houses only being separated by a number of points. Finishing in 3rd place we had Nicholls, in 2nd was Walton and 1st place went to Kyle!

Thank you to all students, staff, parents/carers and the Tamborine Mountain Pool for their participation and assistance in allowing these events to run. 

Students in the 10, 11 and 12/13 Year ages groups will be informed early next year regarding those who have qualified for District events.

Tamborine Mountain Country Fair is holding colouring competitions for 4 age groups.  The 

• Children are welcome to hand in completed sheets to the Tamborine Mountain Library anytime during office hours, or directly to the showgrounds pavilion, before the show date on the Thursday 13th & Friday 14th no later than 4pm.
• The Show theme is ‘Country’ which also includes ‘Disaster Awareness’
• The local fire brigades & SES rescue services will be doing rescue displays in the showgrounds oval, on show day.
