Year 3 Red Cross Pillowcase Program
This week, Year 3 had the privilege of participating in the Red Cross Pillowcase Program, led by Miss Deb and Miss Jackie. The workshop focused on preparing our students for emergencies in a fun and interactive way.
Each student was given a pillowcase that is just for them—not for the entire family. They can use this pillowcase to pack their personal items if they ever need to evacuate. During the session, the children were encouraged to think about what they would pack, including medication, water, non-perishable snacks, a book to read, and something special that would remind them of home.
A highlight of the workshop was when the students had two minutes to decide which six essential items they would take to an evacuation center for a four-day stay without power. This exercise helped them think practically and reflect on what is most important in a crisis.
The children also had the opportunity to decorate their pillowcases, making them unique and personal. It was an eye-opening experience, and Year 3 left the session feeling more confident about how to handle unexpected situations. We encourage families to continue these important conversations at home, reinforcing the valuable lessons learned during the workshop.
