ABP Speaking Competition
This week on Monday afternoon and evening six of our fabulous TMC students represented the College at the annual AB Paterson Public Speaking Competition. Year 4 students Lily A, Morrissey B, Emily F, Ellie D and Vivienne H all participated in the Year 4 section which is designed to provide students with the opportunity to get their feet wet and see what public speaking is all about. Each student composed, edited and practiced their 2 minute speech over 2 weeks leading up to the competition. Whilst no finals or prizes were awarded for this division, all the girls performed wonderfully and certainly made TMC proud with their efforts.
Lily AB from Year 6 competed in the Year 6 Division and presented her 5 minute speech on Weird and Wonderful Words with a focus on how a single word, good or bad, could have a profound effect on those around us. Lily did an amazing job, placing third in her heat, though unfortunately only the top 2 went through to the finals.
Events such as public speaking are a fantastic opportunity for students to develop their confidence, independence and literacy skills in a real world environment. The Secondary section of the competition will be held early next term, where TMC is being represented by students in Years 7, 8 and 9. I look forward to giving another positive update on the growth and excellence of the students here at TMC.

Junior Debating Semi Finalists
We are thrilled to share the outstanding achievement of our Junior Debating Team, who recently reached the semi-finals in the Gold Coast Secondary Schools Debating Competition! Although they didn't secure a win, their performance was nothing short of impressive.
The topic for the semi-final debate was "That today's children have too much freedom." Our team argued with great passion, strong arguments and demonstrating critical thinking skills. They articulated their points clearly and confidently, engaging the audience and the judges alike with their thoughtful perspectives on this complex topic.
Our students showed remarkable teamwork and perseverance throughout this year's competition, and their hard work and dedication were evident in every debate. Although they did not make it to the final round, reaching the semi-finals is a commendable achievement, and we are incredibly proud of their efforts and growth.
We would like to extend a big thank you to debating coach Ms Vermersch and debating coordinator, Mr Haskins, who provided unwavering support and guidance to the team. We also appreciate the parents and family members who have encouraged and cheered on our students every step of the way.
We look forward to seeing even greater things from our Junior Debating Team in the future. Congratulations to all involved for a job well done!

It's been a busy week for the Year 12 students at TMC. Week 9 saw the students begin sitting their Mock External Examinations in preparation for the QCAA External Exams in Term 4. The Mock Exams are designed to give the students a realistic exam experience and to identify areas that they can improve on before they sit the all important Externals. The Mocks will continue for Monday and Tuesday of next week. I would like to put out a big thank you to all the staff who help supervise the exams this week and the students from Year 5 to Year 11 who have gone out of their way to remain respectful and quiet around the exam rooms.

Canberra Raiders and NZ Star, Madison Bartlett
Throughout this term, all classes from Prep to Year 6 have been learning about sports from around the world and practicing these games and specific skills during PE. In addition to this, on Tuesday, Year 3 was fortunate enough to be able to speak to current Canberra Raiders and New Zealand NRLW Star Madison Barlett.
Throughout the conversation students learned about Madison and life growing up in New Zealand as well as the ins and outs of being a professional sports person. TMC would like to thank Madison for giving up time in her busy schedule to share her knowledge and speak with us.

St Helena Island Excursion
Year 4 visited St Helena Island as part of their unit of early explorers and British colonisation. The students enjoyed an interactive tour on the island and developed knowledge of how the island was discovered, what it was initially used for and how harsh life was for both prisoners and staff. Van M was fortunate enough to use the Cat-o-nine-tails in a mock whipping of a prisoner. The entire tour was an engaging experience for our students.

Excitement in the Air as Pre-Prep Begins Transition to School Visits
This week, excitement filled the ELC and Prep playground as our Pre-Prep students began their school transition visits. Each Pre-Prep group was paired with a Prep buddy, and together they enjoyed their Munch and Crunch snacks before heading out to play in the playground.
During their visit, the Pre-Prep students explored important aspects of school life, such as where the Prep students keep their bags, visit the toilets, and store their drink bottles and Munch and Crunch containers. The Pre-Prep students also discovered that the building they’ll be spending time in is called 'Platypus.'
A huge thank you to our Prep buddies for helping support the Pre-Prep students as they transition to big school!
Next term, the Pre-Prep students will have two more exciting visits where they will spend time working inside the Prep classrooms.
