Week 9 in the Secondary School
We are thrilled to share the exciting happenings during our Week 9 Alternate Program, where secondary students delved into a unique curriculum filled with dynamic educational activities. The school grounds buzzed with energy as our students embraced a diverse range of engaging experiences.
Throughout the week, our classrooms transformed into hubs of creativity, featuring problem-solving sessions through, STEM challenges, scavenger hunts, and whodunnit mysteries. Students showcased their theatrical flair in theatre sports, flexed their creative muscles with watercolour painting, and learned valuable lessons through indigenous games and physical activities. Students enjoyed the immersive experience of movie-making and stop animation with Lego, allowing our budding filmmakers to explore their storytelling skills. Thank you to our fabulous teachers for creating such interesting and varied activities. We are proud of our students for their enthusiasm and active participation in this enriching week of dynamic learning, our last for 2023.
Year 5 Powerful Owl Project Australasian Showcase
The TMC Powerful Owl Project had a moment to shine at the Australasian Ornithological Conference 2023, and I'm grateful to have been a part of it alongside Andrew Dinwoodie, Powerful Owl Project Coordinator Birdlife Australia.
In our presentation, we shared the journey of the TMC Powerful Owl Project, a humble initiative aimed at teaching our Year 5 students about animal adaptations, threats, and con
servation. The students had the unique opportunity to connect with powerful owls this year and other birds of prey, deepening their understanding of nature.
Our students' involvement extended beyond the classroom as they actively planted trees in Manitzky Park, bridging essential powerful owl habitats. Additionally, they used Audiomoths recording devices to gather data on owl sounds around their homes. It was heartening to see their enthusiasm contributing to Birdlife Australia's research on powerful owl occurrences.
I am so proud of our Year 5 Citizen Science students!
