Good afternoon, Year 5 parents,

Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Ben Forbes, and I'm thrilled to be stepping into the role of 5 Val teacher here at Tamborine Mountain College, filling in for Mrs. Newman during her maternity leave. It's been an absolute pleasure getting to know the incredible students in 5 Val, and I'm eagerly looking forward to our journey together throughout the remainder of 2024.

On a personal note, this marks my first venture into teaching at Tamborine Mountain College, and I couldn't be more honored to have the opportunity to work with your children, guiding them to expand their knowledge and skills while fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment. My commitment is to stand by each student, tailoring my support to their individual needs, and sharing in the joys of laughter, learning, and growth along the way.

Beyond the classroom, I find solace in the great outdoors, whether it's embarking on a nature walk or soaking up the sun at the beach. Musical theatre holds a special place in my heart, particularly Disney productions, so you can imagine my excitement for our upcoming rendition of The Lion King Musical at TMC this year—I can't wait to contribute to its success. At home, I'm kept company by my three beloved dogs: Arslan, Millie, and Charlie. In my spare moments, you'll likely find me being happily towed along by them on our walks.

As we continue our journey through the era of the Gold Rush, we're thrilled to share some exciting updates on the adventures our Year 5 students have been undertaking. 

From the taste of 24-carat gold to the thrill of excavating hidden treasures right here on school grounds, our young prospectors have embraced every aspect of the Gold Rush experience with enthusiasm. 

You'll be delighted to hear that our students have not only learned about the exploits of bushrangers but have also stepped into their shoes, experiencing firsthand the excitement and danger of life on the goldfields. Some even took on the daring disguise of the opposite gender to avoid paying their mining licenses.

Moreover, our dedicated Mr. Shier has been ensuring order amidst the hustle and bustle of the goldfields, diligently checking that every prospector has their paperwork in order. His watchful eye and unwavering commitment to upholding the law have ensured that our students navigate the challenges of the Gold Rush with integrity and responsibility.

As our students continue to delve into their homework projects, we want to express our ongoing support and encouragement. While the assignment may not be new, we remain committed to providing resources and assistance to make the journey as enriching as possible. Remember, the assignment is available on Google Classroom for easy access to materials and information.

Tutoring sessions for both 5 VIC and 5 VAL are scheduled for Tuesday afternoons from 2:50pm to 3:30pm. If your child has received an invitation to attend, kindly ensure their presence. Teachers will accompany students to the carpark after the session, so please be prepared to pick them up.

VIC and VAL have different days they are wearing their formal and sports uniforms. The sports uniforms coincide with the taught topics on those days (HASS, Art and HPE), the other days are formal days.

VAL: formal uniform on Monday and Wednesday.

VIC: formal uniforms on Monday and Tuesday.
