End of Term 3 Insider
Term 3 Highlights: A Look Back at an Engaging Term
As Term 3 comes to a close, we’re excited to reflect on the diverse and enriching activities our students have experienced. Here’s a recap of what we’ve accomplished:
Science: Students delved into the fascinating world of birds of prey, exploring their unique adaptations that make them effective hunters. This unit was brought to life by an informative bird of prey show, providing real-world connections to their studies.
English: Students researched and wrote detailed information reports about various birds of prey. This project enhanced their writing skills and deepened their understanding of these remarkable creatures.
Mathematics: We covered a range of topics, including time, transformation, location, grid coordinates, and measurement. Interactive activities and practical applications helped build essential mathematics skills.
HASS: Students investigated the needs and wants of a community, thinking critically about resources, services, and community functions.
Media Arts: Students channelled their creativity into designing National Geographic Kids-style articles. They combined research skills with artistic design to create engaging and educational content.
Health: The health curriculum focused on multiculturalism, exploring different cultures and promoting understanding and respect for diversity within our community.
Technology: Students designed and built their own mazes, applying problem-solving skills and creativity to create challenging and fun maze designs.
It has been an enriching and dynamic Term 3, filled with learning opportunities that inspired and engaged our students. We look forward to building on these experiences in the coming term!
Science Week Spotlight: Camouflage Butterflies
Science Week wrapped up with a colourful twist! Students crafted and hid their own camouflage butterflies around the classroom. Inspired by how real butterflies use camouflage, they created unique designs to blend into various spots.
The classroom turned into a giant hide-and-seek game, with everyone searching for these hidden treasures. This project combined art and science in a fun, hands-on way and helped deepen students’ understanding of adaptation.
Kudos to all the students for their creativity and enthusiasm. The butterflies might be hidden, but the learning and excitement are shining bright!
Get Involved: School-Wide Collection Drive for OzHarvest
Join Us in Supporting OzHarvest: A School-Wide Collection Drive. We are excited to announce our Prep to Year 12 collection drive for OzHarvest this year, and we need your support to make a difference! Each year level is assigned specific items to support those in need. Year 5 students are requested to bring toiletries such as deodorant, toothbrushes, soap, shower gel, and hand sanitiser. The form class that collects the most items will win a special prize, so let’s get competitive and make a big impact!
Collections start in Week 1 and continue through to Week 8 of Term 4. Let’s unite for this worthy cause and showcase our community spirit!
Students Shine with National Geographic Kids articles at Art Fest
Our Year 5 students have soared to new heights with their latest project, blending creativity with education in a remarkable way. As part of this year’s art show, students have crafted their very own National Geographic Kids-style articles about their chosen birds of prey.
Each student selected a different bird of prey, from majestic eagles to stealthy owls, and dove deep into research to habitat, physical characteristics, and the unique adaptations that make these birds such effective predators.
With their newfound knowledge, students transformed their research into engaging articles that emulate the style and format of National Geographic Kids. Their work includes vivid descriptions, intriguing facts, and eye-catching illustrations, all designed to captivate readers and highlight the importance of these incredible birds in our ecosystem.
Exploring the wonders of owl pellets
Our Year 5 students recently embarked on an exciting hands-on science experiment that brought their studies to life in a unique way. Dressed in white coats and armed with gloves, they delved into the fascinating world of owl pellets.
During this experiment, students carefully dissected owl pellets, which are regurgitated masses that owls produce after eating their prey. These pellets contain the indigestible parts of the prey, such as bones, feathers, and fur. By examining the contents, students could uncover clues about the owl's diet and the animals it preys upon.
Equipped with tools and guided by our visiting owl experts, Dr Nick, Lucy and Andrew, students meticulously opened the pellets and sorted through the remains. They identified various bones and learned about the different animals that had been consumed. This hands-on activity not only provided a tangible connection to the food chain but also sparked curiosity and engagement in the scientific process.
Exciting News: Year 5 Students to Dance in The Lion King Junior Musical!
We’re delighted to share that both Year 5 classes are preparing to showcase their dancing skills in a special performance of the Lion King Junior Musical! Under the guidance of Mrs. Ivers, the students have been perfecting their dance routines during their music lessons and last week’s intensive half-day rehearsal.
The students have been working hard to bring the vibrant and energetic spirit of the savannah to life through their dance moves. Their enthusiasm and dedication promise a performance that will truly captivate and enchant the audience.
The performance will take place in week 2 of term 4. Details regarding the specific days and times will be shared soon, so keep an eye out for further announcements.
We’re excited for you to see the incredible work that TMC students have put into this performance. Get ready to be amazed by their fantastic dance routines and the magic of The Lion King!
Term 4 Science: Light Experiments
Next term, students will dive into the exciting world of light science! We’ll be conducting hands-on experiments to explore how light behaves, bends, and reflects. To make these activities even more interactive, each student is asked to bring a small torch (flashlight) to class. These torches will be used in a variety of experiments throughout the term, so please ensure your child has theirs ready for Week 1. We’re looking forward to a fun and illuminating term!
