Tamborine Mountain College has two teams currently training and working towards completing the 48 km Kokoda Challenge this July. As part of this process, we are fundraising for The Kokoda Challenge Youth Program (KCYP) which is a 14 month experiential program for 16 – 18 year olds.
The KCYP selects applicants from a diverse range of backgrounds and at different stages in their lives to work together in a unique team building program designed for learning the life skills and values of courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice.
Once they have completed 20 weeks of training the young people embark on a trip of a lifetime – The Kokoda Trail. Whilst in PNG and completing the trail our young people participate in humanitarian activities such as rebuilding of the schools and villages. On return to Australia before graduating from the KCYP, the young people (more often than not now young adults) are committed to giving back to their local communities through a 6 month community services program. Each young person is fully funded and costs the association $10,000.
