Term 2 Week 7

Another busy week on campus.

Several excursions have had students learning out of the classroom and we have received numerous comments of praise for student behaviour as well as uniform.

This week we hosted HIA (secondary level) for sport, with visiting schools from Hills and Kooralbyn. Everyone had a great time and again I have received praise for our students’ welcoming behaviour. Big thank you to parent-helpers for their assistance at HIA sports day on Wednesday.

Our College Band is a pleasure to see and many of you will remember the Open Day performances. The Band went to Roslyn Lodge on Friday to entertain the residents and once again I have received many positive comments.

The highlight of the week was the news that the TMC team for the Science and Engineering Competition on the Gold Coast won! You can read more on this story in webposts.

Bus Arrangements: From Monday 30th May, the following arrangements will be in place for the AFTERNOON SERVICES ONLY.

  • 3 buses will arrive together at Tamborine Mountain College to collect all Logan Bus students (students to go straight to gazebo from Form – no delays)
  • These buses will go to TMSHS where our students will be able to transfer to their correct bus.
  •  TMC students will be allowed to wait quietly and respectfully with other school students at  TMSHS.

Tamborine Coaches – no changes

  • Tamborine Coaches services 4 and 6 for departure down the mountain will depart from 2.50pm (go straight to gazebo – no delays).
  • Tamborine Coach service #5 will depart from 2.50pm (go straight to gazebo – no delays).

Scholarship (academic or sporting excellence) applications are due by the end of May for students entering yr 7 or 11 in 2017. If you are a current family of the College with children in Yr 6 or 10 this year and believe your child is deserving of a scholarship, you simply need to email me directly (before the end of May) requesting me to review this from your child’s current schooling record here at the College. Decisions will not be made until the end of the year for current students, when we have Semester 2 completed. This is a completely different process to outside applications who must present a folio of achievements (see our website) before the end of May and attend an interview. Notification of success of a Scholarship application for these students is done by the end of June.

New Primary building project will begin soon with 4 new classrooms to be added by the end of this year. The purpose built Prep classroom is very exciting and as much as we all love the “Cubby House” the Architects have developed a fabulous area for our little ones.

P&F next meeting is  8th June at 2pm.

Year 10 Work Experience is a great opportunity for students to experience either a Workplace or have a “Taste of University” and is held from 12th September until the 16th of September.  Year 10 Work Experience Information has been emailed to all year 10 students and they are now able to start organising their placement.

Absences need to be communicated to the office as a priority, to assist parents we have created an Absences notification tool on our website available 24hrs 7 days per week. Please email [email protected] advising of student name, reason, date from – to, or you may use the student absences form here.

Parent/Guardian help – TMC Policy is for visiting parents that are attending to the school for any other means than collecting their student must sign in at the office and wear a Visitor’s pass.

Furthermore, Parents are not to use student toilets – this is mandatory for safety reasons. Parents can use the disabled toilets only. There is signage to that effect.
On the website there is a Forms link for parents to download forms as required. Also online payments are now available on our website for creditcard payments for tuition/excursions/uniforms.

Any student arriving late – after 9am – must report to the office to sign-in before proceeding to class. This is extremely important due to the need of accurate attendance records in the advent of an emergency.

Digital Resource Centre (DRC) – Digital Library. Our Digital Resource Centre started operating in Term 4 last year.To access the DRC you will need to use your child’s TMC email address and password. For those unsure of your email address, it should be the initial of your first name, then your last name, with @tmc.qld.edu.au at the end. Please see your child’s teacher if you are unsure about the password. e.g. [email protected] step-by-step guide of how to access the DRC is here, including Apple & Android apps:

Equestrian is headed by two girls in Yr 10 this year. Kate Green and Katherine Glover have volunteered to supply information to our keen Equestrian students to assist them to follow the events through-out the year.

Primary Campus 2016: TMC Board has approved Stage 1 of development for Primary with new buildings positioned in front of the existing building and adds another 4 classrooms to that campus – due for completion end of 2016. We are also planning Stage 2 with another 4 classrooms planned on the secondary site next to the MKLC for 2017 construction period.

The car park is planned for extension during the December holidays. Please use the current carpark for drop-off and pick-up zones or park and wait for your child. There is parking on the grass area in front of the Primary and the next property along, but please do not park on the opposite side of the road.

Enjoy the weekend
