Term 3 Week 2
A very special congratulations to the Valour Junior Band for last week’s performance at Under 8’s Day – the students played so well that I had mistakenly called them the Concert Band!
We have had a busy week with HIA held at Kooralbyn – what a great association to see the 3 schools getting together for sporting events and competiton. Our Primary held their Athletics Carnival on Thursday – the overall College winning House for the Melbourne Cup will be revealed next week.
Next week will be fast paced on the secondary campus with the Kenya Free Dress day (Kenya flag colours – green, red and black) on Thursday to assist a senior to travel to Rafika Mwema girls home for volunteer work. There is also an outing for “We Will Rock You” in Brisbane on Wednesday – how lucky we are to have such experiences organised by our teachers.
P&F next meeting is 27th July at 2pm – hope to see you there.
New Primary building project is well and truly underway for 4 new classrooms. The purpose built Prep classroom is very exciting and as much as we all love the “Cubby House” the Architects have developed a fabulous area for our little ones.
The car park is being extended as part of our building project but the rain during the holidays has delayed that project. Thank you for your continued patience.
Circle Time is our new pastoral care program for the entire campus. It is an excellent approach to addressing student issues and concerns in a safe and caring environment.
Speech Night is held on Wednesday 16th November. Due to the licensing number regulations of Vonda Youngman Community Centre (350 people max) advised to us recently, we can no longer have a whole school attendance for this event. All Yr 12, 11 and 6 will be required, as well as Award Winners from yr 7, 8, 9, 10 (tba prior to the night). The College Band will also be required for performance. Family and siblings of students required on the night are also expected. Form Teachers and Board Members, as well as official guests, will be in attendance. We will also have a special whole school assembly at school to congratulate these students. Thank you for your support regarding this new arrangement, which is how we will have to move forward in the coming years.
Year 10 Work Experience is a great opportunity for students to experience either a Workplace or have a “Taste of University” and is held from 12th September until the 16th of September. Year 10 Work Experience Information has been emailed to all year 10 students and they are now able to start organising their placement.
Yr 10 Parent Information Night regarding senior schooling and subject choices is planned for Term 4 Tuesday 11th October 6pm – 7.30pm.
Absences need to be communicated to the office as a priority, to assist parents we have created an Absences notification tool on our website available 24hrs 7 days per week. Please email [email protected] advising of student name, reason, date from – to, or you may use the student absences form here.
Parent/Guardian help – TMC Policy is for visiting parents that are attending to the school for any other means than collecting their student must sign in at the office and wear a Visitor’s pass. Furthermore, Parents are not to use student toilets – this is mandatory for safety reasons. Parents can use the disabled toilets only. There is signage to that effect.
Late students – arriving after 9am – must report to the office to sign-in before proceeding to class. This is extremely important due to the need of accurate attendance records in the advent of an emergency.
Digital Resource Centre (DRC) – Digital Library. Our Digital Resource Centre started operating in Term 4 last year.To access the DRC you will need to use your child’s TMC email address and password. For those unsure of your email address, it should be the initial of your first name, then your last name, with @tmc.qld.edu.au at the end. Please see your child’s teacher if you are unsure about the password. e.g. [email protected] step-by-step guide of how to access the DRC is here, including Apple & Android apps:
Equestrian is headed by two girls in Yr 10 this year. Kate Green and Katherine Glover have volunteered to supply information to our keen Equestrian students to assist them to follow the events through-out the year.
Campus 2017:We are planning another 4 classrooms on the secondary site next to the MKLC for 2017 construction period. This building will be called the Maureen Nicholls Learning Centre.
