Dylan Sippel Yr 8 was nominated by his local baseball club Coomera Cubs to trial for the Gold Coast Pirates Charter Junior League Representative squad in October last year. After 3 months of trials including drills, time trials, skills trials, practice games & a mini tournament, out of 40+ children aged 13 to 14 years old from across the Gold Coast Baseball Clubs Dylan was selected as one of 14 children to play in the 2017 Gold Coast Pirates Charter Junior League Representative team.

Dylan along with his 13 team mates trained for 4 days per week for a minimum of 2 hours per day working towards being ready to play in the 2017 Junior League QLD State Titles that were held from 7th to 10th April at Padres Baseball Club in Redcliffe.

On day one of State Titles, the team were victorious with wins against Gold Coast Mariners with a score of 5 to 3 & Brisbane West with a score of 13 to 3. Day two saw them win both games again, the first against Far North Coast with a score of 21 to 0 & Brisbane South with a score of 14 to 7. Day three they were victorious again with wins against Brisbane Metro with a score of 11 to 7 & Brisbane North with a score of 9 to 6. Due to them going through undefeated for the first three days of the State Titles, they gained direct entry to the Grand Final which was held on the final day, the grand final game against Gold Coast Mariners had us all on the edge of our seats but Dylan & his team mates pulled out everything & were victorious with a final score of 7 to 4 – making them the QLD 2017 Junior League State Titles Champions!

This is the first time that a Gold Coast Junior League team has been able to win the State Titles & go through the whole of the State Titles undefeated which makes us so proud to know that Dylan was a part of that achievement.

The team now begins training for 4 days per week again in readiness for the 2017 Junior League Australian National Championships due to be held in Adelaide from 21 to 26 May 2017.

The team that then wins the 2017 Junior League Australian National Championships goes to play in the World Titles being held in the USA.
We are so very proud of Dylan’s achievements with this and he is extremely excited about the opportunity to play in the National Championships, as it is a great opportunity to gain experience & make lifelong friendships & it also puts him one step closer to his ultimate dream of playing in the MLB one day.
