From the 2nd to the 4th of June, Year 8 student Cleah Sullivan represented TMC in the South-east Queensland Middle School State Honours Ensemble Program at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University. Instrumental Music teachers were asked to nominate their most outstanding middle school performers (those in Years 5-8). The top students were selected participate in this unique opportunity to extend their musical skills and work with eminent conductors from around the world.
Cleah was a member of Wind Ensemble 1 and performed challenging music with about 100 other students. She stated, “Each day we basically got to our seats, took our music out, warmed up and played…My favourite part was …when I got to personally meet my American conductor, Mr Tracy Wright, on Sunday morning. We had a really nice chat about the USA and Australia and he even gave me an American one dollar bill. I also enjoyed the concert and meeting new people.”
The Grand Finale Concert was held in the Conservatorium Theatre at the conclusion of the program. Cleah thoroughly enjoyed the experience and hopes to go to PHEP (Pacific Honours Ensemble Program) in Seattle, USA in future years.
